Through marriage, he came to Arkansas where he began to spend even more time in the outdoors. His love of Wildlife in there natural settings has always been evident in the various mediums he used, namely Pen & Ink and Prismacolors. But around 13 years ago he was introduced to the Scratchboard Medium, which perfectly fits his maticulous personality and love for detail. Because of the realistic, life-like detail that can be achieved through Scratchboard, Tony creates allmost all of his work through this medium.
Scratchboard begins as a white clay coated art board which is then covered with black India ink. The dried ink is then scratched away, using a sharp metal-tipped tool, to create the image. Then color is carefully applied to the etching using Colored India Inks and Watercolors. This process may take weeks or even months to complete! Since fine detail in his pieces has always been Tony's goal, he remains dedicated to the Scratchboard medium.
